Three children at MUSC Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit with COVID

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) – MUSC officials said as of Thursday they have given birth to three children in the pediatric heart intensive care unit with COVID.

According to health officials, all three children were on a ventilator at one point.

As the highly contagious delta strain spreads across the US, children are filling intensive care beds in hospitals rather than classrooms in record numbers, even more than at the height of the pandemic, according to an Associated Press report.

“Many are too young to receive the vaccine, which is only available to people over the age of 12,” the AP reported.
