The inspiring message from Jarrow 10-year-old with leukaemia at Children’s Cancer Run

“Don’t give up, even if you’re down.”

Those are the inspiring words of Nathan Curry, 10 years old, who continues to inspire people with his strength and positivity two years after being diagnosed with Lymphocytic Leukemia.

Today, the remarkable boy showed tremendous determination by completing this year’s Children’s Cancer Run in a mission to help other children with cancer.

Nathan was one of more than 4,000 participants in the 38th run to raise money for Children’s Cancer North.

And after completing the run with 11-year-old sister Chloe, mom Sue Curry is one of many people inspired by his motivation to help others.

Sue, 48, from Jarrow, said: “I’m really proud of Nathan.

“He has been battling leukemia for two years now and his mobility is really affected.

“He couldn’t go to school at first and he wasn’t on his feet so I’m really proud and it’s a huge deal for him to be on his feet and really try to run away.

“It’s something we never thought two years ago would be possible.”

Nathan, who will hopefully complete treatment in August 2022, said he was proud to complete the mile run without his wheelchair and raise £50 for Children’s Cancer North.

The event, which took place at Newcastle Racecourse, raised around £100,000 and was the first event since 2019, having been canceled last year due to Covid-19.

Nathan’s online fundraising page is still active and donations can be made by following this link.

Nathan said of the run: “I felt a little nervous before the run because I didn’t know if I could do it or not.

“It was hard, but when I was done it felt really good and all the people at the end said well done, it felt really good.”

He added: “My message to other kids like me is don’t give up, even if you’re down.

“I wanted to do the run to have fun, gain confidence and help other people with cancer — it was amazing.”
