CORPUS CHRISTI TX – The Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District has received a report of a pediatric COVID-19-related death. The patient was a man under the age of 10 and an immigrant from Honduras. The patient was admitted to Driscoll Children’s Hospital on April 28, 2021. The child developed a fever on May 11, 2021 and then tested positive for COVID-19 via PCR. Patient co-morbidity included cancer and liver disease. Our condolences go out to their families and friends. Further information will not be released for privacy and confidentiality reasons.

As an ongoing effort, the health district is reminding anyone eligible to receive the vaccine to get vaccinated as soon as possible. Currently, anyone 12 and older is eligible for the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, and anyone 18 and older is eligible for the Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccine. There are many locations in Nueces County where anyone who qualifies can get the vaccine. The Health District has a vaccination clinic at La Palmera Mall seven days a week, and it is always open when the mall is open. Registration is not required and walk-ins are welcome.
