Lindenhurst Community Walks In Support of Cancer Research

LINDENHURST, NY — Members of the Lindenhurst community took part in the annual Christina Renna Foundation Walk-A-Thon and Blood Drive Sunday, in support of childhood cancer research.

The district’s athletic teams, coaches, administrators and residents ran the George D. Smawley Memorial Track at Lindenhurst Middle School to support the foundation’s goal of raising awareness and education about childhood cancer.

Christina Renna was a former Lindenhurst student who died in 2007 of rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare cancer.

September is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. According to the American Cancer Society, childhood cancer is the second leading cause of death in children aged one to 14 years after accidents.

All money raised will benefit childhood cancer research at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory.
