JERSEY CITY, New Jersey – This week, THE NORTHERN TRUST hosted an annual media day at Liberty National Golf Club to promote the 2021 event, returning to Liberty National August 18-22. The media members in attendance not only played the court to get a sense of what the world’s top-ranked PGA TOUR players feel when competing in the FedExCup Playoffs – they also got a sense of how THE NORTHERN TRUST is giving back within the community. In 2021, the tournament’s donation will focus on ‘Hometown Heroes’, benefiting a range of charities that provide need-based services in and around the local community.
Media members played in a shamble format for the benefit of five charity partners with a $50,000 purse. The outing featured five teams, with total scores for the hole (and round) being tracked to determine the winning team with the purse split to eventually give the winner a $25,000 grand prize. Each team that took part in the media day was assigned to one of the tournament’s charities, each of which is making a positive impact on the lives of children and families in New York and New Jersey in their own unique way.
Kyle Palmieri Foundation (1st) – $25,000 New Jersey Golf Foundation (2nd) – $10,000 Metro New York First Tee (3rd) – $5,000 Community Food Bank of New Jersey (4th) – $5,000 Tackle Kids Cancer (5th) – $5,000

Under the guidance of PGA professionals, the programming is designed to provide individuals of all backgrounds the opportunity to experience the game of golf in a welcoming environment.
Metropolitan New York first tee
With 20 campuses in New York and New Jersey, Metro New York’s First Tee exists to empower children to build the strength of their character that will enable them to take on new challenges for a lifetime. By seamlessly integrating the game of golf into their life skills curriculum, Metro New York’s First Tee creates learning experiences that build inner strength, confidence, and resilience that take children with them in everything they do.
Community Food Bank of New Jersey
The Community Food Bank of New Jersey fights hunger and poverty in the Garden State and helps families and individuals with food insecurity find long-term solutions to meet their unique needs. Through the Community Food Bank of New Jersey, all untouched food from THE NORTHERN TRUST is donated and distributed to underserved and food insecure families in Jersey City, Newark and the surrounding North Jersey area.
Tackling childhood cancer
Tackle Kids Cancer, the official charity of THE NORTHERN TRUST, is a philanthropic initiative to raise money for childhood cancer research and patient care programs at Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital and K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital in New Jersey. Funds raised will directly benefit the essential clinical care, unique support services and groundbreaking cancer research needed to find a cure for childhood cancer.
THE NORTHERN TRUST contributes millions of dollars each year to make a lasting impact on the community and make a difference in the lives of children, families and organizations in New York and New Jersey. Since the tournament’s inception in 1967, more than $50 million has been raised to provide access to essential resources such as health care and education, support childhood cancer research, provide services to military families and veterans, and more.
