Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia To Open Pediatric Urgent Care Center in Abington, PA |

PHILADELPHIA, June 30, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — On July 1, 2021, the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) will open an after-hours emergency care center in Abington, PA, exclusively for children. CHOP also operates pediatric urgent care centers in Chalfont, PA, Glen Mills, PA, Haverford, PA and King of Prussia, PA.

“We are excited to provide pediatric emergency care in a new location in Montgomery County, making it easier for local families to receive expert care in their communities,” said Elizabeth Younkins, vice president of CHOP Care Network. “Our five CHOP Urgent Care Centers enable families to receive the right level of care in a fast, convenient, and kid-friendly environment.”

CHOP Urgent Care, staffed by CHOP pediatricians and nurses specializing in pediatric care, will provide after-hours care for children with mild to moderate, non-life-threatening illnesses or injuries that do not require the resources of an emergency room. Located in the same building as the existing CHOP Specialty Care, Abington at 1840 Susquehanna Road, Abington, PA 19001, the Urgent Care Center will be open when parents and children need quick access to care – evenings, weekends and holidays . Hours of operation are weekdays from 2pm to 10pm, Saturdays from 10am to 10pm, Sundays from 8am to 10pm and public holidays.

CHOP experts will treat children with non-emergent illnesses such as ear infections, rashes, headaches, minor burns, wounds requiring stitches, mild to moderate asthma, sprains and broken bones with no apparent deformities. For injuries that may require imaging services, on-site X-ray services will be provided and films will be read by a CHOP pediatric radiologist.

While pediatric emergency care is a convenient solution for parents seeking quality out-of-hours care, children requiring emergency care should be treated at their local emergency room. CHOP Urgent Care Centers are not equipped to treat serious, life-threatening illness or injury, fever in infants under two months of age, or conditions such as poisoning, seizures, or severe breathing difficulties.

CHOP has an established history of delivering advanced pediatric care close to home through its CHOP Care Network, which includes more than 50 primary care practices, specialty care and surgical centers, urgent care centers and community hospital alliances in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, in addition to a new hospital with a dedicated pediatric emergency department on the King of Prussia campus to open in Fall 2021.
