Ascension St. John Children’s Hospital and Wayne Pediatrics join forces to bolster pediatric services for Detroit area families – School of Medicine News

Through a new partnership, Ascension St. John Children’s Hospital is now the preferred location for inpatient care for pediatric patients from Wayne Pediatrics, the pediatric division of Wayne State University School of Medicine.

With the new relationship, patients will have greater access to board-certified specialists representing a range of pediatric services, including rheumatology, infectious diseases, HIV/AIDS in children and young adults, endocrinology, immunology, nephrology, youth medicine and general pediatrics.

“We are excited to combine our resources and align ourselves with Wayne Pediatrics and Wayne State University School of Medicine to provide world-class care while also creating an environment that fosters excellence in next-generation education, research and training clinicians and researchers,” said Michael Wiemann, MD, president of Ascension Medical Group.

In addition to meeting the needs of patients, residents of Ascension St. John Children’s Hospital will have the opportunity to supplement their education by participating in clinical rotations with the Wayne Pediatrics faculty. The affiliation will also increase career opportunities for physicians and academic faculty.
